Let’s Debate: Will all Businesses Be Social Businesses?
Posted on 13. Sep, 2011 by kristie.
This week’s #bizforum debate will focus on social business – it is a buzz word being pushed through the web right now, but will it translate to a business practice supported by all brands around the world? We will be joined by social media master, Kathy Mandelstein, Chief Collaboration Cheerleader and Director @ IBM Collaboration Solutions in IBM Software for their Marketing, Web and Events who has first hand experience of how an enterprise level company like IBM turned into a ‘social business’ and what it means for the market as a whole.
Our chat moderator, Sam Fiorella, just reviewed the IBM Software Group’s Whitepaper where they define a Social Business as:
‘A Social Business is one that embraces networks of people and their engagements to create business value, which would seem in opposition to traditional or even “traditional digital” businesses who leverage transactional or numerical data to make those same business decisions.’
This week’s #bizforum chat is sure to generate a good healthy discussion, and we would love you to join us.
To participate:

Let’s Debate: Social Media Measurement – The Missing Links
Posted on 06. Sep, 2011 by kristie.
This week’s #bizforum debate will focus on social media measurement, with a focus on what is is missing that helps bridge the gap between your CEO’s need for clearly defined metrics and the communities need for open dialogue void of format or formulas, and we will be joined by social media master, Natalie Petouhoff, Executive Consultant and Advisor, Author (4 books!!), Researcher and Speaker.
Our chat moderator, Sam Fiorella, lays out the four themes we’ll be debating this week:
1. What about the emotional side of Social Media engagement? Can they be measured?
2. Can the value of a community be defined? Should it be measured?
3. Metrics in Social Media are useless for a business unless they can be directly linked to profits.
4. Does the decision to engage on a particular devices or through specific technologies warrant additional measurement scrutiny?
This week’s #bizforum chat is sure to generate a good healthy discussion, and we would love you to join us.
To participate:
- Time: WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 7th at 5pm PST (lasts one hour)

Let’s Debate: Is Mobile The Next Business Frontier?
Posted on 30. Aug, 2011 by kristie.
This week’s #bizforum debate will focus on mobile innovation, adoption and the overall potential it brings to businesses and consumers alike, and we will be joined by social media master, Brandon Eley, who is the Interactive Director for Kelsey Advertising & Design, a small-smart advertising agency with a strong focus on digital media where he oversees interactive projects, online marketing campaigns and information architecture.
Customers are mobilizing. Smart phone sales are skyrocketing and devices like the iPad, ‘tablets’ and eReaders are changing the way we live, consume media and work. The adoption of location based services like Foursquare and Gowalla is on the rise (albeit slowly), as is the consumer’s desire to be able to capture anything, anywhere and then watch anything at any time (photos, videos, news, etc). Sprinkle this with innovation around mobile payment solutions and businesses have an amazing opportunity to engage with the consumer in a whole new way (and of course, some old ways too when you look at things like SMS).
Another area I love to see the use of mobile around crisis communications and our chat moderator, Sam Fiorella, just wrote a great post discussing this topic:
The one thing that remains relatively intact during a natural disaster is mobile service. By its very nature, it represents the best and most reliable medium for communication with the customer during a crisis. Power goes out? Mobile is still on.
This week’s #bizforum chat is sure to generate a good healthy discussion, and we would love you to join us.
To participate:
- Time: WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 31st at 5pm PST (lasts one hour)

Social Media Masters Session: Social Business, Holistic Strategy
Posted on 28. Aug, 2011 by kristie.
Cities Available: Los Angeles (September 9, 2011), New York (September 23, 2011), Toronto (October 7, 2011), Kansas City (October 21, 2011)
After spending the past 12 years on the top of search results for “holistic business strategy”, Chris Heuer believes the day has finally come for his insights to become part of mainstream management thinking. As the disruption caused by social media reverberates across all aspects of organizational operations and culture, market leaders are turning to social business to transform the enterprise and seize a competitive advantage. The rise of social business is not only the sucessor to eBusiness, it signals the dawn of the post digital era.
Today, being digital is expected, it’s the price of entry. If you can’t think holistically, collaborate across traditional organizational boundaries, optimize your organization to act as one and earn the trust needed to truly serve your market, your business may soon be extinct. Chris will share his insights on how to think and act like a social business along with the perspective from his colleagues at Deloitte Consulting LLP on the dawning of the post digital era.
Presented by:

Chris Heuer has been engaged in interactive communications since 1993, and launched his first agency, Guru Communications, out of South Beach, Florida in 1994. Over the years he has helped numerous startups with go-to market strategies, product design, web site development, online marketing campaigns, ecommerce and what is now widely referred to as social media.
Seeing similarities between the rise of the Web as a vital communications technology and the current rise of social media, Chris formed Social Media Club in March 2006 to help more people understand the greater significance of what it means to be social and how media production/consumption has changed. To this end, Social Media Club is promoting digital media literacy, encouraging the sharing of lessons learned, promoting industry standards such as Creative Commons and discussing questions of ethics.
Chris is a Specialist Leader, Social Media for Deloitte. In addition to his direct endeavors, he serves as an advisory board member for Buzzlogic and my6sense. He is a frequent speaker, workshop leader and a trained facilitator and has organized numerous unconferences for the community and private organizations of all sizes.
